The Beehive Money section includes free online credit counseling. The counseling provides foreclosure prevention assistance, budget and credit counseling, and debtor education. The Greater Houston Mentoring Collaborative (www.houstonmentoring.org), which is administered by Neighborhood Centers, Inc., will be hosting a National Mentoring Month event at the United Way of Greater Houston. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Susan Weinberger, a nationally recognized leader in youth mentoring. The City of Houston will be proclaiming the day as "Youth Mentoring Day in Houston". On January 14-16, 2010 at George R. Brown Convention Center the Houston Wellness Association will be hosting their 3rd Annual Symposium. This three day event will focus on worksite initiatives and on obesity and public wellness. The symposium is specifically designed for benefits managers, corporate fitness vendors, grassroots organizations, the medical community, occupational safety professionals, the research community, the school community, wellness decision makers, human resource directors, and private foundations. The Mayor's Volunteer Initiatives Program (V.I.P.) has partnered with Disney and the HandsOn Network to offer several volunteer opportunities throughout the year. In 2010, Disney wants to inspire one million people to volunteer a day of service to a participating organization in their communities and celebrate their good works by giving each of them one day admission to a theme park at Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort, free. Please go to www.disneyparks.com to search for volunteer opportunities made available through HandsOn Network and sign up for a day of volunteer service. Currently, V.I.P. has the following opportunities available through Disney: Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care (BARC) Volunteer Day- Saturday, January 30, 2010, noon-4 pm. BBVA Compass Tour de Houston- Sunday, March 21, 2010, 5 am - 2 pm. One must pre-register and sign up for eligible volunteer opportunities at www.disneyparks.com. Ticket quantities for this program are limited and you need to be at least age 6 to participate.

The Greater Houston Women’s Foundation was established in 1990 by a group from Texas Executive Women who were concerned that less than five percent of philanthropic dollars were dedicated to women and women's causes. Guided by the principle that a woman who controls her finances controls her destiny, the organization creates a series of free, financial education seminars for women and girls from all socio-economic backgrounds with particular emphasis on low and middle income populations. On March 4, 2010 members are invited to the 2010 Membership Reception. On Tuesday May 4, 2010 The Women’s Resource Center will be celebrating 20th years! This event is chaired by Kristi Schiller and Millette Sherman where they will be honoring 10 Houston mothers who have made significant contributions to their families and the Houston community. As United Cerebral Palsy's major fundraising luncheon, this event promises to be great fun and features a reception, seated luncheon and speaker, Sean Tuohy, who was recently portrayed by Tim McGraw in The Blind Side.
